I love cooking and am happy to be your personal chef during your stay

Everything is freshly home-made and our portions are very generous. Please give me 24 hours notice since I source and cook all ingredients fresh on the day. The only time I cannot offer this service is throughout April when I am in the lambing barn.

There are a number of ways you can make the most of me and the Primrose farm house kitchen:

  • Come into the farm house for a full breakfast (£14.40 per person)
    Platter of a freshly cut fruit, our own birchers muesli (made with almond or coconut milk), fruit juice, selection of freshly baked pastries, local sausages, bacon, creamy mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and sautéed potatoes. Eggs to order (our own of course) or try our famous cheddar cheese soufflé omelette, tea and coffee, toast and preserves. A meal guaranteed to set you up for the day
    Or enjoy a smaller fry-up (£5.40 per person)
    Eggs to order, local sausage, bacon, grilled tomato, sautéed potatoes, baked beans, toast, butter and preserves. Bottomless tea or coffee
  • Order a take away picnic hamper (£I5.60 per person) – going exploring? I can pack you a hamper containing fresh cut fruit, pastries, yoghurts, mixed nuts, sandwiches your choice of fillings, bacon and courgette frittata, lemon drizzle or almond citrus cake, fruit juices and bottled water
  • Come into the farm house for a real high tea £18 per person– if the weather is good you can settle down on the patio and enjoy the views and I will serve you a Devon high tea to write home about. I make everything in miniature so you can sample the whole spread. With a bottomless pot of tea or coffee I will offer: Savoury: courgette frittata and a selection of finger sandwiches – egg mayo, ham and chutney, cheddar cheese and pickles. Sweet: lemon drizzle, double choc muffins, almond and citrus cake, South African custard tart and of course scones, jam and cream. No one will comment about the way you dress your scone – jam first then cream or the other way round – it’s all OK with us, just please don’t give any to Oscar the Labrador – no matter how sweetly he asks
  • Coming in late and don’t fancy cooking yourself and don’t want to go out to eat? I can bring you a meal to your cottage. Check out the menu….but be warned our portions are big!

Chicken Liver Pate
Like my late mother used to make, smooth and a generous splosh of brandy, served with crisp breads. I source the chicken livers from Otter Poultry just down the road

Chilled Cucumber and Celery Soup
Perfect for a summer lunch – creamy and subtle, served with mini out-of-the-oven bread rolls and butter

Cottage Pie
Ultra lean beef mince in a rich tomato sauce, topped with fluffy mashed potatoes and grated cheddar cheese. Served with a side salad

Primrose Farm House Salad
One of our signature dishes – a layer of fresh baby spinach and rocket leaves, topped with sliced raw mushrooms, caramelized roast butternut, spring onions, feta cheese, toasted pine nuts and crisp bacon. Your choice of balsamic and olive oil, our creamy herb house dressing or 1000 Island. Served with mini out-of-the-oven bread rolls and butter

Beef Lasagna
A classic- ultra-lean beef in a tasty tomato sauce baked in layers of pasta and cheesy béchamel sauce. Served with a side salad

Roast Vegetable Lasagna
Autumn veggies slow roasted in olive oil, garlic and rosemary and then baked in layers of pasta and cheesy béchamel sauce. Served with a side salad

Courgette, Bacon and Cheddar Cheese Frittata
one of our most requested dishes, delicious hot, warm or cold, a light frittata made with our own eggs – a perfect light meal served with freshly baked mini bread rolls and a side salad. I can leave out the bacon for vegetarians

Luxury Mac Cheese
Pasta baked in cheddar cheese sauce topped with slices of tomato and crisp bacon. Served with a side salad

Oxtail and Mash
Slow cooked in red wine, celery and carrots, served off the bone and topped with fluffy mashed potatoes and roast winter vegetables

Lemon Mousse
Light, fluffy and very lemony – a really refreshing end to a meal

Marmalade Bread and Butter Pudding
Rich and creamy inside, crunchy on top served with custard – don’t ask about the calories

South African Custard Tart
A national treasure – a smooth crème patisserie custard set on a biscuit base and dusted with cinnamon. Without doubt, the favourite among our visitors

Lemon Meringue Pie
A thick layer of really tangy lemon curd on a biscuit base and topped with meringue

Upside Down Pineapple Tart
Very sticky and packs a little punch with the addition of cracked black pepper – sounds odd? Worth a try and you will be converted, served with custard

Mighty Muffins
Choc full of good things like nuts, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries and apricots. Served with grated cheddar cheese

Chocolate Salami
Another South African favourite – rounds of chocolate studded with citrus peel, glazed fruit and mixed nuts. Perfect with coffee

Kovrabiedes
The Greeks’ answer to Scottish shortbread. Made with butter, these little beasties are crunchy with toasted nuts and drenched in icing sugar. A deeply satisfying experience

NIBBLES WITH DRINKS ON THE DECK

Mixed Chilli and Herbed Nuts £4.80 per serving – seriously enough for 2
Totally moreish with a glass of chilled white wine, I glaze these mixed nuts in honey, a secret blend of spices and then I spike them with just a tad of chilli

Marmite Fingers £1.80 per serving
Like marmite? Then you will love these baked crisp bread crouton fingers with marmite and onion glaze. Especially popular with the kids

Cheddar Crisps £1.80 per serving
Crunchy and cheesy mini bites with a hint of chilli

Warm Garlic or Herb Bread £1.80 per serving
French stick crisp on the outside, soft and buttery within. Your choice of garlic and/or mixed herbs
