Circular walks in the Blackdown Hills
View full photoBroadhembury and Dalwood offer two very different circular walks for a holiday in the Blackdown Hills. Both return to their starting area, but one fits a shorter walking day while the other needs a larger part of it. Primrose Cottages, near Upottery, is a base for exploring this inland landscape.
A village and a climb
The National Landscape’s Broadhembury and North Hill circuit is about 4.5 miles. It climbs away from the village before a flatter stretch and descent. Choose it for a walk that combines a village setting with higher ground. The distance alone does not convey the uphill effort.
A longer valley circuit
Dalwood and the Yarty Valley is a nine-mile route, with much of it away from roads. It gives experienced walkers a longer outing through the countryside around the river. Use the official map and route notes to understand the lane sections, climbs and starting point.
The National Landscape route collection separates walking from cycling and horse riding. Download the walking route you choose before leaving the cottage. For something much shorter, Combe Wood’s one-mile circuit keeps the outing within a small woodland near Honiton.
