View full photoThe farming year at Primrose
Spring at the farm usually includes lambing from mid-March into April. By June, the adult sheep are normally ready for shearing. Later in the year, attention turns to preparing the flock for the rams and the next lambing season.
These jobs give the year a rhythm you can see in our farm photographs and sheep calendar. Dates vary with the weather and the animals’ needs. If seeing a particular activity matters to your plans, ask us before choosing your stay.
Spring: woodland flowers
Combe Wood is a spring choice near Honiton, with bluebells usually associated with early May. Weather changes their timing. Keep to the paths so the woodland floor is not damaged.
Summer: a day towards the coast
Seaton Tramway gives you a different view of the Axe Valley on a journey between Seaton and Colyton. Use the date-specific timetable when combining the ride with another outing.
Autumn: woodland and migration
Otterhead Lakes brings water and woodland together for an autumn walk. For birdwatching, the RSPB's Bowling Green and Goosemoor reserve near Topsham is used by migrating birds as well as wintering flocks.
Winter: birds and indoor visits
Our birdwatching page explains the difference between wetland outings and how dog restrictions affect the day. On wet days, look at the gallery programme in Honiton. Winter opening calendars vary, so choose a specific open day.
Christmas and New Year
If you are considering a festive stay, send us your preferred dates and cottage choice. For outings during that period, use each venue's published holiday calendar; normal weekly opening hours may not apply.
Compare the cottage layouts before selecting your dates.
